Admission criteria


1. High-tech oriëntation

The candidate can be a starting company or a company that already exists, which

  • Is active (will be) in the high-tech field
  • Has a certain affinity with R&D activities of the local education institutions or institutions for scientific research (more specifically the UHasselt, the Catholic Industrial College (KHLIM) or the Xios College .

Candidates who wish to develop a mainly trading function will not qualify.  The aptitude  of a candidate is examined in a preparatory conversation with the manager of the science  park.

After this talk, the manager will obtain possible additional information at institutions on the campus or organize a meeting with the candidate and staff employees of these institutions.

2. Venture Plan & Application

If a candidate meets the mentioned qualifications, he will be asked to submit a venture plan (also called business plan). 

This can vary from 3 pages up to 30 pages according to the “size” of the applicant and his past activities.

Example :

1. Introduction

  • who are we
  • what will our main activity be?
  • In which sector are we active (some general data concerning the field)

2.   History of the centre

  • When and how were we founded, how did we / will we grow ?
  • Professional history of the current (and possibly future ) employees
  • Current professional activities planned in relation to

3.   Market analysis

  • Description of the market in which one is active (history & expectancies)
  • Our product/service (positioning this market)
  • Our (potential) customers
  • Our competitors

4.   Marketing Plan

  • Restricted information concerning sale expectancies and planned promotion

5.    Financial Plan

  • Recent annual account (if one was already active in the past)
  • Forecast turnover (for next year)
  • Forecast corresponding costs (raw materials, staff, hiring, depreciation, interests…)
  • Planned investments (next year and the year after that)
  • Financing resources for these investments

6.    Structure of the Venture

  • Legal structure
  • Owners
  • Employees

7.    Cooperation possibilities with Campus Institutions

  • After receiving this business plan, the headmaster of UHasselt (or the manager) will call together the Scientific Advisory Committee.

3. The Scientific Advisory Committee

The Scientific Advisory body meets under the chairmanship of the headmaster of UHasselt. For the purpose a committee is composed ad hoc in function of the qualifications of the candidate tenant.  In this committee are seated: the headmaster, a number of staff employees of UHasselt, other Campus Institutes and the manager of the Science Park Limburg.

This committee studies the business plan and can ask additional information with regard to the acceptability of the candidate tenant (or candidate purchaser of a construction plot)

If this recommendation is positive, it will be presented by the manager on the next meeting of the Governing Board of the Science Park if it concerns a candidate tenant for the Incubator. This Council must approve of the arrival of the candidate.

4. Management Committee

If the concerning candidate wants to :

  • purchase an building plot within the site of the science park
  • or wants to rent a space in another building than the Incubator

This request with the business plan must be transferred to the President of  Management Committee of the Science Park Limburg.

In this Committee the following members with voting power are seated (situation 2006)

  • Prof. Dr. H. Martens (director IMO)
  • Prof. Ir. L. Gelders (vice-president UHasselt)
  • Mevr. F. Quanten (general director POM Limburg)
  • Prof. W. Indeherberghe (Gen. Director KHLIM)
  • Mr. Dirk Franco (Gen. Director XIOS)
  • Mr. O. Joeck (Secretary of Council Diepenbeek) and a delegate of the Flemish minister of Economy)

This committee will appeal on the evaluation of the Scientific Advisory Committee .
