In 1998 the development of the concept " Flanders Multimedia Valley" was started in the initiative of GOM-Limburg and the Governing Board of the Province and with the collaboration of Science Park plc.

This umbrella organisation has to stimulate a synergetic functioning and compilation of competence in the expanding sector of the multimedia- and information technology.

During the period 1998 – 2003 several new buildings were built on the 11 ha site of the science park. Some were built and offered for hiring by Science Park plc.; three buildings were built by companies themselves (after buying the building  plots).

On December the 31 ^st  2005, 562 persons were employed in the area of  Science Park Limburg ( 11 ha ), 180 of which were active in the two UHasselt research institutes (IMO and EDM).

Conditions of entry: companies that want to establish themselves in the Science Park can rent offices and/or lab’s in the Incubator.  If they need more space, they can rent in an other building e.g. the passage building , which are also property of Science Park plc.

There is also the possibility to a building plot and build your own building.

Candidates for renting office space or for independent building in the area of the science park have to reveal their intentions to the manager of Science Park plc. Their activities must have a high-tech character and show affinity with R&D of the research institutions of the Campus (UHasselt, KHLIM, XIOS).
